#101 Film vs Digital

A while ago I made a post about film simulations for Fujifilm cameras. Now I have made a small test to compare to real film. I used a Fuji X100V simulating Kodak Porta 400 and a Leica M4 with a roll of Kodak Porta 400.

You can slide between the film version and the digital version. The film is to the left and the digital picture is to the right. I have not changed anything in any of the pictures. I used the same settings on the cameras. The film version is slightly darker – but that could be the scanning process…

When I look at the pictures side by side, I must say that I like the real film Porta the most.

I suppose that I could have tweaked the picture in the editing process, to look more like Porta – but that was not the point. I wanted to see how well the simulation did, compared to the real thing. After seeing this I will try and shoot more Porta with my Leica. I think this was the first time I shot Porta – at least in the last 20 years. I really liked the colors and the contrast in the film. It reminded me about the pictures I got from the M9 a couple of years ago. Luckily I bought a pack of five rolls…
